REMUS THEATER

Remus Theater was established in 1995. Since 2001 the theater is located in Warsaw's Praga district. The theater has produced many performances, among others in Warsaw, Wroclaw, Gardzienice, Węgajtach and Holstebro, (Denmark), as well as a number of cultural animation projects.

NEW ESTABLISHMENT The tenement house at Engineering 3, the former house of the Remus Theater, burned down on January 30, 2013. Every inhabitant of Warszwa was heard of the fire. A week before the premiere of the "Obsessive" performance, the theater group was on ice - without a seat, set design, and hoping to release a premiere at the scheduled date. Does this story continue?

The fire completely destroyed the tenement house at Inżynierska 3, where there were numerous art studios and the iconic "Bee's Dream", but fortunately there were no victims. Luckily, the Warsaw Commune, the Theater Institute and the Center for Contemporary Art have drawn a helping hand and offered space for the release of the February 6 premiere. Managed to! Despite difficulties, both the Prime Minister and other Warsaw and foreign performances took place on scheduled dates. Then, over a year and a half, members of the Remus Theater Association fought to keep the memory of the fire dead. Theater equipment was completely destroyed - the value of material losses as a result of the fire is estimated at a total of at least 100 thousand. zł. This was our 18 year old accomplishment - says Katarzyna Kazimierczuk, President of the Association. Fortunately, we received tremendous help and met with the great affection of the independent theaters, our partners, co-workers, donors, local authorities and volunteers, without which we could help. We were also supported by foreign artists - the Danish team Odin Teatret, organized a fundraiser to help us and technical staff of the Teatre du Soleil in Paris - collection of lighting equipment. Also the local authorities of the Praga Północ District have shown a great willingness to help launch the new permanent seat of the Association. In the end we found the best and after many renovations, possible thanks to the subsidy of the NGO Fund of the Swiss-Polish Cooperation Program, as well as the Praga Północ District, our new home is a building in the courtyard of the Kępna 6! - is already happy President Remus.

"THE THIRD THEATER" Remus Theater belongs to the trend defined by Eugenia Banca as the Third Teatr - bands for which, apart from theatrical theaters, in addition to the performances, the focus is on the way the theater is present in the surrounding social and cultural environment. For the team, it involves the need to go beyond closed, elite circles of high or avant-garde culture and work in environments subject to cultural and social marginalization.

ANIMATION OF CULTURE The Remus Theater team has been performing cultural animation projects in the excluded Pogegerian and Praga Praga North areas for ten years. The phenomenon of marginalization of these communities is largely rooted in the sphere of culture. These are culturally-abolished communities, where cultural processes have been disturbed by migration, displacement, and displacement, and where multicultural, often internally hybridized hybrids have emerged, without a common tradition, hierarchy of values, and a code of norms.

The cultural characteristics of the target environment contribute to the effects of this eradication, limited access to higher culture, the absence of any manifestations of active culture, deriving exclusively from mass culture and cultural isolation. As a result, there are widespread media and consumer aspirations associated with this attitude of passivity and claim, social pathologies, as well as the closure and resulting phenomena of chauvinism, xenophobia, racism and anti-Semitism.

The exclusion of these environments, which consists in depriving the ability to articulate one's own needs, aspirations and aspirations, connects them with the broader circle of the whole contemporary community, dominated by the mass consumer culture, which does not give the recipient any opportunity for dialogue.

In the activity of the Remus Theater Association, cultural animation is understood as initiating a local cultural process and building local cultural traditions in these environments. It is also a kind of laboratory work on the search for ways to overcome the negative effects of decay in the contemporary world of active culture. Theater in this kind of work is a great medium, because through it can create such a situation with the viewer, which does not rely on the passive reception of the spectacle, but pulls the audience into active dialogue.

LOCAL PROJECTS In animation we start with workshop work with children, which is not the sole purpose of our projects but a way of reaching the whole community.
