The Romanian Jewish Theater has a 141-year tradition, inaugurated on August 19, 1876, in Iaşi, in the famous green tree "Green Tree", when the artist and writer Avram Goldfaden (1840-1908) founded the first professional Jewish theater in the world, presenting a show with his own band. One of the first chronicles at Goldfaden's performances was the signature of the most prominent Romanian poet, Mihai Eminescu, who appreciated the actors' play as "very good". After a series of performances, Goldfaden and his band moved to Bucharest, playing in the cities through which they went: Botosani, Galati, Braila. The success gained stimulated Goldfaden to create new dramatic works (among others, historical pieces of Sulamit, Joseph in Egypt, Iudith and Holofern), linked to the deepest rooted Jewish cultural traditions, from which he took over all the elements containing at least one stone of theatricality.
