The Maldives is a country of superlatives in many ways. Five-star resorts on paradisiac islands surrounded by turquoise water are paired with stunning sea life and world-class cuisine. The Maldives are expected to offer the best and most exclusive experiences one can think of and dining is no exception. Therefore, it comes with no surprise that also the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, the world’s first undersea restaurant, is located at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, a 5-star resort island in South Ari Atoll in the Maldives.

Dine with sharks and enjoy exclusive delicacies

If culinary experiences are an essential part of your life and also your travels, you should definitely check out this award-winning undersea restaurant. As the world’s first of its kind, it offers all the luxury you can think of. In Dhivehi, the native language of the Maldives, Ithaa means mother of pearls. Located five meters below sea level, the restaurant offers 180-degree panoramic views of sea life. Check out the coral garden around you and observe sharks, fish and turtles while sipping your cocktail and enjoying dinner. The meal includes seven courses, so you will be able to try lots of different tastes, from caviar to foie gras and from prawn tartar to premium steaks. Guests should not miss out on the cheese and wine, as the Ithaa Undersea restaurant also offers up to 100 of the world’s best types of cheese and owns an undersea wine cellar with more than 20 000 bottles of the best wines. No wonder this restaurant has received numerous awards like “Global restaurant of the year” in 2017.

As you might have already guessed, all these features have their price – the seven-course dinner for one person costs as much as a weekend city trip, but you can reserve for lunchtime and enjoy the same quality for a slightly more affordable price. However, if you want to celebrate a special occasion, this might just be the perfect location for you. The whole restaurant can even be booked for private events like weddings or also exclusive breakfasts and dinners. If you want to bring children, please consider that they are only allowed in the restaurant during lunch. To be dressed correctly, the restaurant recommends a smart-casual dress code for dinner. Bare feet are preferred. If you choose to reserve a table at Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, but you stay on another island, you can book a seaplane transfer to get to Rangali Island.

Ithaa Undersea restaurant is one of 12 restaurants and bars located at the 5-star resort Conrad Maldives Rangali Island. If you want to bring your vacation to the next level of exclusiveness, I can recommend booking your complete stay there. The hotel is the only Maldivian resort that is located on two private islands. The most exclusive suite is the Muraka, the world’s first undersea residence with living room, bedroom and reception room above the sea and a suite located completely below the water. The price per night can be as high as a middle-class car, but it includes a private chef and a boat all to yourself. Additionally, the resort is home to two award-winning spas built on stilts in the lagoon. No wonder this exclusive resort is regularly visited by stars like the Kardashians.
