Muzeum Katyńskie

The Katyn Museum in Czerniakowski Fort at ul. Powsińska 13 - ran its activity from 29 June 1993 until its closure in January 2009. In September 2015, a permanent exhibition was opened to the guests at the new headquarters of the Katyn Museum - the Warsaw Citadel.

The main element of the Museum's mission is to cultivate the memory of Polish officers, officers of the State Police, Border Protection Corps and state officials - killed in the spring of 1940 by the NKVD - by the decision of the authorities of the USSR of March 5, 1940, whose remains were found in mass graves in Katyn , Kharkiv, Miednoje and Bykovni.

The Katyn Museum gathered nearly 30 thousand. items taken from collective graves, several thousand photographs, archives and about 5,000. witness relationship. In addition to the collection of Katyn memorabilia - the institution conducts research, dissemination and conservation activities. prepared by the staff of the institution - archival and photographic resources - families of victims and historians and journalists - dealing with issues of the Katyn Crime.
