In 2014, the Óbuda Museum won the two most prestigious prizes in the home museum profession: the Museum of the Year and the MuseumCafé Prize.

The history of the museum

The museum's first place and settlement history museum was founded in 1927 in Óbuda, at the civic boys' school at Kiskorona Street 10, organized by Párosczi Edgár, called Árpád Óbudai Museum. Unfortunately, the material of the museum was completely destroyed in 1945.

The predecessor of today's Óbuda Museum was founded in 1973 as the Óbudai Historical Collection on the 100th anniversary of the unification of Pest, Buda and Óbuda. Between 1973 and 1994 the institution first worked as a part of the Óbuda Cultural Center and then Óbudai Társaskör. In 1994, the Óbudai Historical Collection was an independent institution, which was renamed as the Óbudai Museum, which was proclaimed as a museum of the General Collection of the Ministry of Culture in 1996.

The maintainer of the institution Budapest III. District of Óbuda-Békásmegyer Municipality. In 2007, by the new cultural concept of Óbuda-Békásmegyer Municipality, the Óbudai Museum and Library was established on 1 April 2008 by merging the Platán Library and the Óbuda Museum. In 2009, the museum adopted a 5-year development strategy, aiming at developing a modern 21st century, adapted to the changing needs of visitors. Within this concept, in 2010, with the tender support of the ALFA program, a new permanent exhibition entitled "Óbuda - a city's three faces" was opened and a new main entrance to the Holy Spirit Square was opened with a public museum museum. The temporary exhibit structure, the event structure and the museum pedagogical system have been transformed, with the two TÁMOP tenders won in 2010/11 by the initial resources. In December 2011 the III. district government, the Óbuda Museum became a separate public collection.

As of January 1, 2012, the former Textile Museum operates on the Lajos Street Building, Goldberger Textile Collection, where a new successful ALFA competition opened in autumn 2013 for a permanent exhibition on the Goldberger factory. (For more information: www.textilmuzeum.hu).
