Pokrajinski muzej Ptuj Ormož

The Ptuj-Ormož Regional Museum is a general museum with collections and departments for archeology, history, cultural history, ethnology, restoration workshops and other services. Its origin dates back to 1893, when the Museum Society was founded in Ptuj and exhibited archaeological finds in the lower secondary gymnasium. In 1895 the collection was supplemented with numerous donated museums of different genres. According to the donor prof. Franz Ferk called the Museum Ferry Museum. Over the years, the exhibition site became too crowded, and in 1928 he moved to the former Dominican monastery. After 1945, he received the castle complex and managed to obtain most of the existing buildings. At the same time, he expanded the area of ​​his activity and got the title Provincial Museum of Ptuj in 1963. Now it operates in the wider area of ​​Ptuj and Ormož, which is famous for its rich prehistoric and antique sites (Roman Petovion), the period of migration of peoples, medieval and novel witnesses about the cultural and economic significance of Ptuj and its hinterland and the picturesque folk tradition.
