The Messel Pit opens a "window to the past" a multifaceted look at the environment and the lives of the Eocene period about 48 million years. Because of the uniqueness of conservation, diversity, amount and importance of their fossils is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 09.12.1995 and became the first of Germany's World Heritage Site. Since August 2010, the visitor center "Time and Messel Worlds" has opened its doors for you and the people around the world.
