If summer months in Delhi are unbearable for you, do not worry. Within approximately seven hours, it is possible to escape Delhi’s heat and reach an appealing hill station, Nainital, located in northern India. Sitting at the footsteps of the Kuman ranges in the Himalayas, the hill station attracts several locals as well as foreign tourists to explore the serenity of this place. Furthermore, it is quite convenient to reach Nainital via air, rail or road routes. So suit yourself, plan a quick and relaxing getaway to the ‘Lake district of India’.

Nainital is named after ‘Naini’ Lake, which makes it a popular hotspot for tourists. It is a freshwater lake and located amid the lush greenery of the Himalayas. Interestingly, the lake is shaped like a pear with its shore lined by hotels, guest houses, eateries, souvenir shops, and temples. The lake has a depth of 27 meters, and swimming is prohibited here. Boating is allowed, from 6 am to 6 pm, but ensure you are wearing a good-quality life jacket. A ride in the boat lasts from 30 mins to 1 hour. It is a highly relaxing adventure to revel in the beauty of nature while spending time with loved ones in a boat. I totally loved it! Many honeymooners can also be seen chilling around.

The cable car ride offers excellent views of the Naini Lake and the city. The 3-minute ropeway ride carries tourists from Mallital to the Snow View Point, offering idyllic views of the snow-covered peaks of the mighty Himalayas. Located at the height of 2270 m above sea level, the Snow View Point is installed with binocular too, offering tourists a closer look at the magnificent beauty around. At the other end of the ropeway, it can get quite cold, so bring some warm clothes.

Another popular attraction in Nainital is the Tibetan Market. Shopaholics would love spending a day there. Situated close to the city center, you can find woolen scarves, shrugs, Tibetan ethnic wear, bags and other souvenirs here. Practice your bargaining skills before coming. You can also find unique bamboo fabrics along with artificial jewelry. Once here, don’t skip the yummy Tibetan food, including momos and Thukpa. Some wise people said that food is mandatory after a tiring shopping spree

Nainital offers a different kind of travel experience, which is both enriching and reviving for the mind, body, and soul. Next time you are in Delhi, enjoy a perfect getaway away from your work, worries, and whimper. I feel nature has created certain places like Nainital so that humans can fully enjoy their existence on earth. Do not forget to do so as you explore the beautiful and serene 'Lake district of India'.
