Kolumba Kunstmuseum

The idea of ​​Kolumba as a "museum of thoughtfulness" was developed from 1991 by the Kuratotenteam under the direction of Joachim M. Plotzek and tested until the inauguration of the new building in September 2007 in numerous exhibitions and events. All considerations concerning the architecture were put into a relationship with this concept. Starting out from the traditional collection structure of the diocesan museum founded in 1853, Kolumba sees itself as an art museum in ecclesiastical sponsorship, which wants to comprehensively present questions of artistic design beyond all branches and specializations. As a museum of thoughtfulness, Kolumba presents an open offer for exploring the life that has become art.
