The Museum of National Liberation Maribor began to function as an independent museum institution on May 1, 1958. Its poems date back to 1947, when a collection about the national liberation struggle was opened at the Provincial Museum in Maribor. This was the first such collection in Slovenian complex museums. The substantive concept of the museum was precisely defined upon its foundation. It is a historical museum that deals with the museological and historiographical treatment of the recent history of northeastern Slovenia. The museum has its own premises in a bourgeois villa on the corner of Mladinske ulice and the street of the hero Tomšič, built by Maribor entrepreneur Scherbaum in the mid-nineties. Today, besides interesting and rich museum collections, which count as 170,000 museums, a museum museum is also very rich. The specialty of the museum is an archive with more than 120 liquid meters of material from the occupation and partisan sources. The museum acquires materials with purchases and donations. The Museum of National Liberation Maribor was also the first in Slovenia to introduce the work of the curator of pedagogy. The museum is housed in a bourgeois villa on the corner of the streets of Mladinska Street and Heroic Tomšič Street, which was built by the Maribor entrepreneur Karel Scherbaum in the mid-1890s. Today, along with interesting and rich museum collections, which already amount to more than 170,000 museum artefacts, there is a very opulent museum photo-library. A specialty of the museum is its archive, which has more than 120 running meters of material from occupying enemy and Partisan sources. The museum acquires material from purchases and donations. The National Liberation Museum Maribor was also the first museum in Slovenia to introduce the post of curator educator.
