Stiftung Insel Hombroich

The cultural center Hombroich, which is managed by the Insel Hombroich Foundation, includes the Museum Insel Hombroich, the Hombroich rocket station and the Kirkeby field on more than 60 hectares of land. These three complexes serve not only the presentation of the collection and the exhibition, but also the performance and production of various art forms.

In 1987, the Düsseldorf collector Karl-Heinrich Müller (1936-2007) opened the Museum Insel Hombroich. Together with the landscape designer Bernhard Korte and the artists Gotthard Graubner, Erwin Heerich and Anatol Herzfeld, Müller developed his interplay of art, architecture and landscaped landscape in terms of an ideal location for the arts. The sensory-associative installation of the permanent collection by the painter Gotthard Graubner in the walk-in sculptures designed by the sculptor Erwin Heerich is one of the world's first realizations of the ideals of a site-specific and open presentation of art postulated by artists and theoreticians since the sixties ,

In the 1990s, Müller supplemented the museum with the rocket station Hombroich and the Kirkeby field; In 1997, these three locations were merged with the participation of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in the Foundation Island Hombroich. While the area named after Per Kirkeby in five buildings by the Danish artist allows changing installations of art, the missile station has created a dialog-complementary place to the museum, where artists, writers and musicians live and work. Here, in addition to the former hangars and bunkers of NATO, there are purpose-built buildings of renowned architects for different purposes, including Raimund Abraham and Álvaro Siza. The rocket station Hombroich is dedicated to contemporary art and cultural projects.

Hombroich is a radical project that realizes extraordinary ideas. The ever-renewed relationship between art, sculpture, architecture and nature as well as the coexistence of works of art from different cultures is receiving international attention.
