No, this is not Thailand. In fact, it is not even a sea, nor is it close to one. This is Krupajsko Spring, land-locked and hidden in between the mountain tops of Kucaj, Beljanica, and Homolje in Serbia. Turquoise waters, lush greenery, and a mysterious cave are breathtaking sights that just look displaced from some tropical island. However, the first touch of the still waters of Krupajsko Spring reassures you about its location - ice-cold water belongs to an exotic wonder in Serbia.

The unique beauty of the place

Krupajsko Spring marks the beginning of Krupajska river, near the village Milanovac, where it springs from the attractive cave finding its way through the wild nature to its confluence. The original look of the place was slightly different, due to the construction of a concrete dam in the 1940s. The dam helped in creating the artificial lake with surreal colors and scenery as we see them today. There is even a mill that was built alongside the dam that is still in use today.

Before the building of the dam, the water used to spring directly from the cave with strong pressure, creating the burst and cascades. An artificial lake flooded the original spring, and now it can be found only beneath the peaceful and still water surface. The biggest part of the cave is underwater, and the entrance arc creates a stunning illusion of the shape of a heart with its reflection in the water.

Exploring the depths and lengths of Krupajsko spring

Near this exotic beauty, there is another thermal spring with mineral water of a constant temperature of 26.5°C. Both springs have fresh drinkable water, are protected by the state, and are attributed medicinal properties from the local people. As with every karst lake - the surface is just a beginning of the wonder. The measured depth of the lake is 123 meters, and beneath the surface, the spring creates a web of tunnels that are creatively named for their shapes: the stomach, the slide, the ram head...

Near the spring, there is a restaurant with the same name, where you can try some of the local specialties and enjoy in the views and smells of flowers, mixed with a refreshing breeze from the freshwater.
