Hidden gem of Belgrade

As the summer is advancing, things are getting quite heated up in Belgrade. The asphalt is getting warmer and warmer, while the refreshing summer breeze is rather rare. Your long walks are replaced by relaxation time spend in air-conditioned cafes and restaurants. In case your summer holiday plans do not allow you to go to more distant, warmer parts of the globe – do not despair! There are so many wonderful, unique things to do and visit in Belgrade and really enjoy it during the summertime. As a matter of fact, in my opinion, summer is the best time to visit the glorious Serbian capital. Apart from the amazing museums and monuments that you may enjoy in, you can also trick yourself as if you actually went to the seaside. You don’t believe me? What if I told you that apart from Ada Ciganlija, also known as the Belgrade beach, there is another unique, hidden place in Zemun area of Belgrade? If you like to run away from the polluted and noisy city crowd and enjoy some peaceful time while looking at the water, then keep scrolling. Today, I am presenting you the hidden gem of Belgrade – Lido Beach.

If I had to pick one unique, yet not so famous and hidden area of Belgrade it would most certainly be Lido beach. What makes it so special is the fact that it is rather isolated, remote and in a sense deserted beach at the small island in Zemun called the Great War Island. In fact, the whole island is unable to be explored, as it is strictly protected by the law of urbanization. However, you may definitely get a glimpse of it at the very top of the Great War Island where Lido beach is located.

Indeed, this small, isolated spot is as privileged and close to the Great War Island you may get. The wild Lido beach is the only spot accessible to people and boats. Unfortunately, during some summer periods of great floods, Lido beach was completely flooded, but quickly restored and improved. For instance, today there is a beach rescue which previously did not exist. Still, if you like to feel the untouched natural beauty, this is the right spot for you.

Another great thing about Lido beach open to public is the fact that it is indeed a protected, treasured natural good and home to a great number of almost extinct flora and fauna. If you are a nature and animal lover, you will be happy to see the array of rare plants and animal species that may be only found here. Have no fear, you will not see anything too extravagant nor dangerous but still quite exotic. Since I was a child, I learned to appreciate the rare species of migratory birds that arrive at the beach. Needless to say, that can definitely be something you will be amazed by.

Finally, if you would really like to escape from the Belgrade heat and feel the less urban, hidden part of the city, then Lido beach is the perfect spot for you. You will be surprised to see how much you have missed a few hours in the untouched nature. My warmest suggestion is to leave your phone at home, but definitely bring a swimming suit and a loved one. Lido beach will make your summer in Belgrade memorable.
