A landlocked country with a festive and free spirit like Serbia - it’s natural that we take advantage of what we’re given, and come up with creative solutions to beat the summer heat. This leads to  numerous rivers, lakes, and streams being transformed into the summer beaches, full of crowd, music, and shade. In Novi Sad, the Danube may be the most popular place where locals seek recreation and refreshment in the long summer days. Novi Sad’s most popular beach Strand is almost like a sea, just minus the salt: sunbeds, white sand, and cocktails are just some of its infallible elements.

About the Strand Beach

The name “strand” derives from a German word that means - beach. The background of this can be found in the past, as Novi Sad was once an important province of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. The beach was officially opened in 1911, but it was popular among the locals for many years before that. Today, it is an iconic place where the locals gather in the summer to hang out, walk, swim, and enjoy the gentle summer days in their hometown.

The beach is equipped with a playground so that the families can enjoy the time with their youngsters. There are several bars with sunbeds, tables, where the visitors can sip their cocktails, fresh orange juice, or ice-cream, whatever may be their favorite cooling source in the summer. The Strand Beach has well-marked swimming areas, lifeguards, and even a free-range space, where you can just come to chill, or read a book, independently from the surrounding bars and restaurants.

Popular all-year around

Even though it’s the most popular in the summer, when for a modest price smaller than one euro, you can get to experience a real seaside summer atmosphere, the Strand isn’t abandoned during the other seasons either. People still like to walk there or sit down for a drink and enjoy the views towards Petrovaradin fortress and slopes of Mt. Fruska Gora on the other side of the river. Especially popular for its beach parties in the summer, this place transforms into a calm promenade, where the sound of river relaxes, and the wind carries away everyday stress.
