There is a diversity of places in Romania where one can come in contact with animals. Nature as an architect in Romania will surely leave an impression on you, and if you wish to be among the animals, one of the unique places you can visit is the Windmill Zoo Park in Sălicea, near the city of Cluj-Napoca in the northwest of the country.

So, why is the Windmill Zoo Park such a unique place? Firstly, because most of the animals you can find here are domestic animals. Secondly, because you can feed and pet them. If you wish to interact with these majestic creatures, you can buy food (like grains or carrots) at the entrance, and while being here, just enter the animals' shelters and start interacting with them. There is another aspect that makes this Zoo Park unique: the nature that surrounds the park. The Zoo, rather than having a piece of fancy equipment, is modestly constructed so that the animals here are as near the nature as possible. Last but not least, the Windmill Zoo Park is open all year long. And I almost forgot - some of the animals are left free, so you won’t be the only one taking a walk through the alleys of the park.

The animals

There are quite a few animals here, actually more than 250 specimens. One can see approximately 45 species. Children and adults alike can pet and feed rabbits, squirrels, monkeys, horses, geese, hens, guinea fowls, pheasants, peacocks, doves, quails, goats, deer, ponies, donkeys, lambs, Vietnamese pigs, hawks, sheep and many more. There is one principle that is used here: as much freedom as possible. Not only can some animals walk free but the vegetation is also left to grow after nature’s rules.

Here, you will have a great time, but you may also encounter the positive benefits of petting an animal. Animals are well-known for their therapeutic and stress fighting impact. You may also enjoy the benefit of taking a walk in the middle of nature. If you were thinking about dining in this marvelous place, the owner of the Zoo Park has already read your mind. There are three terraces where you can dine by yourself or with your loved ones at the Windmill Zoo Park.

Other activities

Besides seeing, feeding and petting these wonderful creatures, there are other activities one can enjoy here. A little train will take you on a journey through this park. Children have a trampoline and can practice winter sports as soon as the first snow covers the park. Even horse riding lessons are available for the visitors.

Being among the animals at the Windmill Zoo Park is something one can enjoy all year long, and the visit here will definitely make an impression on you.
