One of the perks of visiting the Coquimbo Region is enjoying its famous beaches, great cuisine and cultural vibe. Many would say there is nothing more relaxing as spending a day at the beach, although I rather visit some museums or restaurants around. In this story, I will tell you about the best places to enjoy summer in the Coquimbo Region. Towns of Coquimbo, La Serena and Totoralillo are all very close and have so many incredible places to visit. So, I have selected for you my favorite places for a perfect summer day in the Coquimbo Region.

La Serena

Let’s start your day by visiting one of the must-sees of La Serena. "La Recova" is a beautiful artisans market located in the heart of the city, where you can enjoy papaya juice, papaya sweets and a wide range of typical artisanal snacks. It is also a great place to buy souvenirs, as this place is a classic in the city. Since you are already in the city center, you could also visit the churches of La Serena.  Actually, La Serena is nicknamed "La ciudad de los campanarios" (the bell tower city) because it has many churches. This dates back to when the city had a lot of religious orders, and all of them had their own church.

Coquimbo

Lunchtime arrives, so where can we go? If you like seafood, Coquimbo has the freshest and most delicious food in the region. I highly recommend the restaurant "Mar Adentro", as their menu is amazing, and the seafood is always fresh and tasty. If I had to recommend you something from their menu, it would be ceviche, the pink clams with parmesan cheese or the Mar Adentro soup. After a tasty lunch, I would suggest a tour of the city center! Just walk and watch the beautiful murals and graffiti

Totoralillo

After all the sightseeing and food, you will be looking for a relaxing beach to chill out. Well, in that case, Totoralillo is your place. It is a hidden jewel of the region, known by locals only. This beach is a bit further from Coquimbo, but is so worth it! The water is clear and beautiful, the sand is fine and white. The place is surrounded by restaurants and small stores, where you can buy food, beach toys, ice cream, etc. This is also considered the best beach to surf in the Coquimbo region, and you can also dive and go fishing. If you want to spend a night here, no problem. There are a lot of cabin options with a privileged view of the ocean. It is definitely something strongly recommend if you want a break from the city and some real peace!
