The sweet Angelina story

Opened in 1903 by the Austrian confectioner Antoine Rumpelmayer, Angelina has soon become very popular place among the Parisian aristocracy. Coco Chanel and Proust loved coming to this elegant and charming cafe. Edouard-Jean Niermans, the famous “Belle Époque” architect, who designed the interior of Angelina, wanted to give a sense of romanticism and poetry to this tearoom. No wonder this place is so popular among the Parisian gourmets, but also tourists. So, be prepared to wait patiently in line, before you are allowed to enter this temple of sweetness.

Mont Blanc vs African hot chocolate

Angelina is well known for its so-called “African” hot chocolate. This drink is composed of three kinds of cocoa from Niger, Ghana and Ivory Coast, and its recipe is a secret. Perfectly thick and rich, this hot chocolate goes marvelously with Angelina’s iconic pastry – the Mont Blanc. But, only, as I said, if you are not on a diet. The Mont Blanc pastry combines meringue, light whipped cream and chestnut paste vermicelli, and it is a real treat for every true gourmet. Another tasty pastry that I can recommend you is - Millefeuille à la Vanille Bourbon. Just imagine, layers of caramelized puff pastry filled with the light bourbon vanilla cream. Too tempting, isn’t it?
