If you are on ‘no-sugar’ or any other diet, I have afriendly advice for you – skip this article as soon as possible. Why? Because, I am bringing you to Angelina, the sweetest place in Paris! Next to the Jardin de Tuileries, a beautiful Parisian garden, hidden under the arcade, you will find the entrance to the very elegant and more than sophisticated tearoom full of colourful and delicious pastries. And where you can find the best hot chocolate in the entire City of Light? At Angelina, of course!
Opened in 1903 by the Austrian confectioner Antoine Rumpelmayer, Angelina has soon become very popular place among the Parisian aristocracy. Coco Chanel and Proust loved coming to this elegant and charming cafe. Edouard-Jean Niermans, the famous “Belle Époque” architect, who designed the interior of Angelina, wanted to give a sense of romanticism and poetry to this tearoom. No wonder this place is so popular among the Parisian gourmets, but also tourists. So, be prepared to wait patiently in line, before you are allowed to enter this temple of sweetness.
Angelina is well known for its so-called “African” hot chocolate. This drink is composed of three kinds of cocoa from Niger, Ghana and Ivory Coast, and its recipe is a secret. Perfectly thick and rich, this hot chocolate goes marvelously with Angelina’s iconic pastry – the Mont Blanc. But, only, as I said, if you are not on a diet. The Mont Blanc pastry combines meringue, light whipped cream and chestnut paste vermicelli, and it is a real treat for every true gourmet. Another tasty pastry that I can recommend you is - Millefeuille à la Vanille Bourbon. Just imagine, layers of caramelized puff pastry filled with the light bourbon vanilla cream. Too tempting, isn’t it?
The original Angelina is situated at Rue de Rivoli, but you can find another boutique at the Galeries Lafayette and the Petit Trianon in the Palace of Versailles. But also, Angelina has more than 30 tearooms and boutiques in the worlds. So today, you can find Angelina from Paris to Singapore.
Angelina, the sweetest place in Paris, is open every day from 7:30 a.m to 7:00 p.m, and on weekends from 8:30 a.m to 7:30 p.m. In all Angelina tearooms, there is a little boutique where you can buy many delicacies, like the bottle with the original Angelina’s Hot Chocolate or even famous Angelina's Chestnut Cream. Every season, the Angelina's pastry Chef chooses to highlight different ingredients and make a special treat. This summer you can enjoy the taste of refined and colorful pastries with red berries and exotic fruits. Perfect for warm Parisian summer!
