They say that “home is where your heart is” and the people who know me well are already aware, that a place that I can easily call home is Amsterdam, yes the capital of the Netherlands. After spending a looooot of time there and visiting for almost 2 years every weekend, I can consider myself as the city’s savant, a city that would definitely make it to my top fav 3 cities’ list. Amsterdam is a city that literally steals your heart and helps you lose your mind! Many people know of Amsterdam because it was one of the first cities to legalize recreational use of marijuana, and legal prostitution. As you can guess, this gives the city an almost undesirable feel to it for some. But the second I set foot in the city, I fell in love.

The city is absolutely gorgeous. With a rich and interesting culture, and a beautiful people. Canals weave and wind through the city, every other street you go through you’ll pass over another bridge or follow another canal. The view of the little serine boats floating through the canal was peaceful and enjoyable. Every street you walk down, you will be outnumbered by bicycles. Also, the price to park in Amsterdam is incredibly high and most people simply take bikes everywhere. The people of Amsterdam, the Dutch, were some of the friendliest people I have ever encountered; I made friends for life and I’ve created incredible memories with them! Their entire mentality of living is simply to get along! A term that I should probably explain is “gezellig”; Amsterdam is famously gezellig, a Dutch quality that translates roughly as convivial or cosy.

I can keep writing and writing, however I’ll just stop here to keep you interested in my next “The Netherland’s pages”. Let’s now start with a 24h guide for the city! Arm yourself with comfortable shoes, a good map and get ready for an adventure! Here’s a selection of tips for what to see and do in one day in Amsterdam. Enjoy!
