Every country that was a part of the former USSR and the tragic events of the World War II has a lot of monuments honoring the great and glorious soldiers, that protected their lands from the enemy invasions. Moldova is no exception, and we've got many monuments of the military glory. One of the most impressive ones is the Eternitate Memorial Complex in Chisinau, where locals usually bring flowers in the commemorating days. You can visit this huge complex not only during those days - but all year around. There is also a beautiful park inside of the monument territory and a lot of places to sit on a bench or even on grass - the park is very groomed.

The honorable monument of victory

In Soviet times, the Memorial Complex Eternitate was called the Memorial of Victory and was built in honor of soldiers who died in the battles for the liberation of Moldova and Chisinau from enemies during the Great Patriotic War. The opening of the monument took place on the 9th of May in 1975, on the Day of Victory, celebrated in many countries all over the world. It's huge and has almost 25 meters in height. In addition, it is seen from many high points of the city.

Eternity flame and the fallen soldiers

The memorial composition consists of the crowned 25-meter high pyramid of five stylized rifles, which completes and, at the same time, divides the whole complex into the military burial sector and the square for rallies. The northwestern side of the memorial has 6 stone steles where the compositions symbolizing several stages of the war are carved. They are made of the red stone and look really enormous. In addition, you can note 155 marble stands with the names of the fallen soldiers that protected our lands.

The Day of Victory

Usually, the majority of people visit this memorial complex on the Day of Victory, on the 9th of May. They bring carnations and peonies to the eternal flame at the soldier's marble stands, the unknown warriors cemetery, that is a quite unique place in here. We, as the residents of the former USSR country, honor our history because, as the saying goes: "That one, who doesn't remember the past, is condemned to repeat it". We come here with children and show them this monument of military glory. We explain to them that "Eternitate" means not only the word eternity; it means that the memory of the past heroes will be kept as long as we will remember them. That's why a lot of people come here not only in during the national holidays. They come here to feel peace, to sit on the grass, and to have a quiet time near the huge trees feeling the unconditional pride. Once you visit Chisinau, don't miss this place - you will be impressed!
