If you are getting tired of all the must-see tourist attractions in Tallinn and want to get into a more laid back environment, you should hop on a tram and drive to Telliskivi Creative City – hipsters favourite hangout spot.

From industrial center to hipster paradise

It is no coincidence the place is called Creative City. It really is the most creative place in the capital of Estonia. A former industrial complex brought back to life attracts the most colorful crowd – youngsters, eccentric artists, hipsters, designers and other people who enjoy galleries, street art and shopping at flea markets and designer stores. While sipping on your glass of craft beer in one of the many cafés located in Telliskivi, you will find it almost surreal that at the beginning of the 21st century there were no colorful crowd, bicycles or small shops here. Behind a big wall was a place no modern youngster was interested in – some big industrial factories, where trains were repaired. Though, the old industrial vibe remains in all the corners of the place. That is probably the reason it is so popular today.

From street food to restaurants

To start your creative tour, you should probably get something in your belly to set the mood. Telliskivi offers a large variety of places to munch. To get a quick snack, take something from the street food vendors – you won’t be disappointed. To sit around a little, you should choose Kivi Paber Käärid (Rock Paper Scissors). This 100% gluten-free restaurant offers great food and a great mood. On weekends, you can spend your night away listening to music and chatting with your friends.

Shop Estonian design

After a meal, step into one of the many shops of Telliskivi. Trust me, you won’t get bored. It’s not a place where you can find dresses that almost everyone else wears. You can find a large variety of products that talented Estonian designers have created. It is easy to lose yourself for hours, walking around the shelves. If you are more into thrift shopping, you should head to Telliskivi on Saturdays, when large flea markets take place.

Dance the night away

When the sun sets, the life in Telliskivi just begins. There is always something going on in Telliskivi, no matter what time you come, and there is never a dull moment. Theatres like Vaba Lava, performances, music shows or dance parties – there is something for every taste. But if you prefer just to do some people-watching, book your table ahead because it gets really busy, especially on weekends.
