The city of bicycles, Münster, is a lovely place to visit in the North-Westphalia, Germany. It is known for its bicycles, since even though the city has only 300.000 inhabitants, the number of bicycles in it is approximately 500 000 ! With its young population, there is so much to see and do there; from museums to historical places, lovely cafes and many more. This "young old city" has also a long history. Münster’s roots go back to the 6th century AD. It became a cathedral city as early as in 805, and it is still an active center of the Roman-Catholic church. You can reach this lovely city by catching a flight to the Düsseldorf Airport! Trains are also a nice option. Münster is close to multiple cities such as Hamm, Paderborn, Köln, Bonn and many more.

If you are looking for daily trips and excursions to different cities, you should definitely include Münster in your list. The most common way to explore the city is by bike; you can rent one easily in the main train station. Walking is also a perfect option to do so, since the city has some gorgeous long-gone medieval walls worth admiring! So, if you want to explore Münster, here is your guide!

First, let's visit Picasso museum!

Das Kunstmuseum Pablo Picasso Münster opened in 2000. It is located in the Königsstrasse, which was one of the most gorgeous streets in the Old Town. Inside this museum, you will find over 800 prints by Pablo Picasso, including almost the entire lithographic oeuvre of the Spanish artist. Picasso is not the only one you'll admire while there; you can also find his contemporaries and his artist friends (such as Matisse), since the exhibition space covers approximately 600 square meters. If you are into art, then I'd say that it is a must visit museum.

Get yourself an ice-cream and wander around the Prinzipalmarkt!

If you want to experience the definition of a "living history town", you have to check out Münster’s Prinzipalmarkt! From the beginning of the Middle Ages, the square was a special place for the ancient merchant families! In here, you can find lot's of gorgeous gabled houses, the Hall of Peace, several shops, amazing restaurants and fun cafes. The square is basically the heart of the city, since it is a place where multiple festivals take place, and where people meet and enjoy their afternoons! The glorious St. Lamberti’s Church is also a must see while there.

Witness history in Vischering castle!

Burg Vischering or in English Vischering Castle, is a beautiful castle that kept its natural beauty untouched for over decades. With its defensive walls and moats, its drawbridge and arrow slits, the Vischering castle stands with its glory, waiting to be explored! After seeing the popular knights in armour, you can enjoy a cake and a coffee in its cafe and then burn those calories with a long walk among its gardens.
